right. so it's been the crappiest month evar.

besides the 50 other things that are going wrong, there is also siding falling off of my house. and even if i wanted to think about possibly putting it back on myself (ha), i would need an enormous freaking ladder to do it, as it's of course falling off the highest part of my house.

so. anyone know anybody who does this sort of labor (cheap would be good, as i am dead broke)...or does anybody have the know-how if i went and rented an enormous ladder for you and paid you and/or fed you and/or traded you for massage hours?

thanks in advance for any info/help anyone can provide...

at first i ignored this, because i thought giving it air might lend it some sort of strange credibility. but it has become so freaking hilarious that i finally brought my camera into work, since i didn't think i could properly describe it without show and tell.

life in a swing state and working across from an obama headquarters is...exciting? )

go cary. go republicans.

er. what is the mentality behind this again? except for plain old intimidation tactics? or to prove that some of us haven't made it past the 6th grade?

i was voter #1437 at cary towne center. go me. it took about 30 minutes to get through the line at 3:40ish.

if you are in nc, here's a list of places where you can vote early. note, only 4 of them are open this week--the rest open next thursday.

go. vote!

yes, i know. it's soon. and we've only spent a couple of hours together so far. but i can't help myself. dexter, i think i'm falling in love.

;)

erm. perhaps it's a very smart decision to keep myself out of the dating pool for a long, long time to come...

also. [info]citycrystal. i don't think anyone has ever in my life stood up for me like that. (although something fuzzy about my massage school graduation comes to mind...) and i know that it did not come without personal cost to you. while i'm not entirely sure it will ever even be read, i just thought i should thank you for...well, you know. everything. you mean so much to me chica--and like i said before, i promise to hang in if you do. :)

how does it feel?: dull ache.

hey, [info]jenndorff: have you seen this?

one of my clients who knows i'm getting married said she thought of me when she found cakewrecks. i told her that our cake would never, ever make it there because i'm lucky to know a cake artiste. but dude. that site had me giggling for quite some time. had to share. :)

some good friends of mine have just opened the most amazing salon in downtown raleigh. words cannot really convey (nor do the pictures on their website, unfortunately) how gorgeous this space is. it's a fully renovated floor in a historical building, HUGE, hardwood-floored, perfectly decorated. it reminds me so much of salons in nyc...except there's about 5 times more space.

oh, and dana (one of the owners) is a fantastic stylist. she's been doing my hair for a couple of years now. if you know me at all, you probably know how absolutely twitchy i am about letting ANYONE go near my hair with scissors. serious ptsd, let me tell you.

so yeah. check out alter ego. seriously.

we brought her home friday evening. she's just as brave and inquisitive as haris was at this age. and even more with the nuzzlhbinnnn4777777777g. (0000000and trying to help me type.)

i really hope they become best friends. and don't join forces against lux. er.

i kinds wish they'd talked to me first, though. anna paquin? bleh. she already ruined one of my favourite x-men. seriously.

maybe i'll have to get hbo this fall...

from my little sister: )

judging by the apple website, this is a machine that would be worth about $1500 (total with tax), but she got it with her discount for $1300. and she's looking to pass it off for $200-300 less than that.

i'm trying to take pity on the kid. she just broke up with her...uh, fiance (the guy she's known for about 8 months total--7 of which in person) this week. and i guess that means she can't afford this thing anymore...?

lemme know if you're interested...

so i have these 2 tickets to see the sold out cure show in charlotte monday evening...and with all the date-changing and stuff we sorta forgot this was coming up. i think we will probably go if we can't sell the tickets, but i thought i'd see if anyone else out there was really, really wishing they were able to...?

i have 2 tickets, section 116, row cc, seats 53 and 54. with all the ticketmaster ridiculousness, they came to $91.50. that's all i'm asking for if you want them. (cash or money order, please.)

they're paper tickets, so you'll also need to arrange to meet with me sometime before monday afternoon. ;)

drop me an email at djkalyx -at- gmail -dot- com if you're interested...

happy birthday, [info]themysteriousg!!

omigod, i miss you. i'm glad your new co-workers are treating you right and that your job is so amazingly awesome and that k has been taking you out on lots of dates lately.

...and that your child is already aware that i am the one to seek out when she wants purple hair. mu-ha-ha.

i voted yesterday. in cary, which is not the city in which i live. i also updated my address and party affiliation. and watched several other folks register to vote right before grabbing their ballots and voting beside me. the whole process took about 10 minutes. pretty cool.

if you're in nc, you can do this 7 days a week through next saturday, may 3rd--and avoid the lines on tuesday, may 6.

more info here.

also, many thanks to [info]z_kungfu for posting this: bill moyers interviews reverend wright.

oh, and what the hell. just 'cause it's nicked from mr. gaiman, and i find it so terribly amusing...an encore:

so t finally got his long-awaited, much-deserved promotion. hooray! he'll officially be an assistant store manager as of next week. ee! and hello big, fat raise. :D

haris celebrated his first birthday last week by escaping the house for an entire night. in the rain. and now he has the most adorable kitty-cold. adorable because it makes him all sweet and sleepy and docile and loving. but i imagine the banana-flavoured antibiotic liquid we got on monday is going to have him back to his rascal-y self in no time. in fact, he's already beginning to wreak short bursts of havoc again as of last night, in between long drowsy naps and bouts of sniffles.

the temptation going-away party for [info]lorddjc was a blast on saturday. (we are so going to miss you!) [info]morphis got me drunk, and i danced and drank water for hours in order to be able to drive home. i'm not sure how i'm feeling about the sweaty dancefloor pics of me on facebook. ok, yes i am.

the tulips that the dc contingent brought me from the netherlands are blooming. they are freaking amazing. i will have to take some photos soon.

in some random burst of energy that came from god knows where, i cleaned the whole house this weekend and also caught up on 6 weeks' worth of work notes in the past 2 days. i sort of don't know what to do with myself now that there's nothing really looming.

well, maybe i do. i'm knitting like a mad woman on the most complicated project i've tried to tackle yet: a lace shawl made out of kid mohair (fuzzy thread, basically) that will match my wedding dress. each row of about 380 stitches takes about an hour to complete. oh, and i'm beading it, too. and it's going to be 125 rows. heh. yeah.

and this weekend, [info]1artsychick and [info]dentalfriend--and maybe even t!--are accompanying me to a bridal show. hee. this ought to be fun. ;)

also, i am enjoying the heck out of the spring weather. but i'm worried that the pollen might actually kill me this year. bleh.

NC primary could provide the final push to Democratic convention )

so yeah. if you're a left-leaner like me, you really should get out and vote in the primary on may 6. you have until april 11 to change your party affiliation, but it looks like unaffiliated voters will be allowed to vote in democratic, republican, and libertarian primaries.

if you haven't registered, or want to change your party affiliation anyway, here's how you can do it in wake county.

holy crap, i'm thinking a choice between mccain and clinton is worse than the choice between bush and kerry... :P

linksys wireless desktop adapter with speedbooster (model# wmp54gs) bought at circuit city in december for $70. i don't need it anymore, it was used only for a month or 2--it's in perfect condition, and i still have the box and everything it came with. $50 obo.

if no one replies to this by tomorrow morning, i'll post it on craigslist.

cheers!

in other heart-stopping news (or how i very nearly got a second new roomie this week)...

that's the apartment building right beside my mom's. we were out to dinner with her this evening, and she got a phone call from a co-worker/neighbour telling her that the building next to hers was on fire. when we arrived at her place a few minutes later, there were about a dozen fire trucks and nearly as many ems vehicles. it was pretty harrowing.

apparently, they got it under control fairly quickly, though. we were sort of surprised that it took nearly 3 hours to reach the intarweb. the only info i've been able to find so far is a little stub of a story here.

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.
